Bald Eagle in the Mist

St. Helena, Napa Valley

High among the bare branches at Clos Pegase in St. Helena, a bald eagle spreads one massive wing against the muted sky of California’s Napa Valley.

The low, overcast light gave the scene a naturally cold and atmospheric character—the eagle’s white head and golden beak emerging from a lattice of dark branches while its outstretched wing fills the surrounding space. Rather than separating the bird from its environment, the photograph preserves the tangled tree, subdued weather, and sense of place that made the moment distinctive.

Captured at Clos Pegase in Napa Valley, this image preserves a brief encounter with one of California’s most commanding wild inhabitants, suspended for a moment above a landscape better known for vineyards and wine.

Printed on stretched canvas, the photograph is especially striking at larger sizes, where the feather detail, branching structure, and scale of the eagle can fully emerge.
